[ A split second of silence hangs in the air between them. Ryo's expression doesn't change, but his thoughts briefly drift to his own world. It might be dead soon, too—or rather, no longer a place for humanity once the inevitable nuclear war engulfs the planet. ]
My desk. [ Ryo pulls out one of the desk drawers and takes out the book. The cover is a red simulated leather with gold lettering. ]
[ it is a lovely bible, at least, and dextera takes it in hand as soon as it’s offered to him. like ryo said, some of the passages are blurry, but dextera thinks he’ll be able to recall them in time—or at least the gist of them. ]
That's a difficult question. [ and one he's never really thought about until dextera asked, honestly. he rolls the question over in his head throughout the next several seconds, trying to formulate a decent enough answer to it. ]

[ ryo moves closer so he can read along with dextera, eyes skimming over the familiar text, sharp and rich black with clear lines. he's spent many hours pouring over the book of isaiah and other parts of the bible, for several reasons; it's interesting to him as an anthropologist because religion tends to seep into nearly all facets of society, and because he wanted to figure out where he stands on religion. ]

[ not a “human” one, as some may phrase it. the god of the old testament still thinks himself righteous and justified, and the people who would take after that would not consider themselves human. ]
[ ryo may not be consciously aware of it, but eons of resentment color his opinions, makes something nestle uncomfortably in the pit of his stomach. the christian deity is a vindictive, capricious and unjust despot at best. certainly not worth worshipping. he prefers a more deist approach to god—a deity that doesn't care about human affairs and left everything in the universe to its own devices after creating the natural laws that allows it to run itself. it makes more sense to him than a specific religion, and allows him to reconcile faith with scientific fact.
of course, deep down he knows god is not as uninvolved with his creation as he would like to believe. ]
